It is expected that most vehicles will gain between 4-5 HP after installing x-pipes. This slight increase in horsepower results from the venturi effect created by the pipes.
The effect directly impacts the scavenging of the exhaust. As a consequence, the gas is drained out of cylinders much faster than usual.
This ultimately boosts the vehicle’s performance and power, more precisely referred to as horsepower.

So now you know that the venturi effect is responsible for adding a bit of hp. But don’t you wonder how x-pipes create this unique effect that other pipes cannot?
I will get to that in the next section.
How Does the X-pipe Increase Horsepower?
The effect I mentioned earlier takes place because of the excellent flow provided by an x-pipe. Unless the design and layout of a pipe are as good as the x-pipe, you will not achieve that level of flow.
Okay, but what makes the design so unique?
Most pipes connect the two sides of the exhaust system. As opposed to them, an x-pipe merges those two sides. This way, it improves the efficiency and convenience of the exhaust flow into the exhaust pipes.
The optimal flow ensures that the x-pipe triggers the venturi effect, making the vehicle more powerful with added hp.
How Much Horsepower Does An X-Pipe Add?
X-pipes will add around 5 hp to your car, or even more, depending on the vehicle. Having said that, the increases can range from as little as 2 hp to virtually none.
It all depends on the power and condition of the engine. Some engines tend to be free of restrictions. They are already receiving adequate flow. You are unlikely to see any significant hp gains on those engines.
Additionally, there is the power factor that can have an impact on the amount of horsepower you get. For example, getting 4-5 hp will be easier if your engine already generates 250 hp.
It may come as a big surprise, but some high-power motors can boost horsepower by 20 with x-pipes. While it is rare, it can happen if the engine is powerful and unrestricted.
Alternative to the X-Pipe’s Power Gain
You probably want to know if there is an alternative that gives your truck a slight improvement in horsepower without using an x-pipe. Well, there is one!
All you need to do is delete the muffler. Your car will sound more muscular as a result. And more importantly, the power will increase.
At low RPMs, the rise in horsepower is not noticeable. The extra hp will only be available when you run your car at high RPMs.

Conclusion
I believe I answered the question of whether an x-pipe increases horsepower or not. It certainly gives you a bit of power. However, it also has some other features you may or may not like.
